Report: ‘Game of Thrones’ to Film Multiple Endings for Season 8 Finale

Start counting down the days because, despite the current weather, winter is coming. That’s right, the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones is currently in production and according to one of its stars, we’re in for a few big surprises. In a recent sit-down with The Hollywood Reporter, the Mother of Dragons herself Emilia Clarke, shared some details about the forthcoming episodes. Of course, the actor who plays Daenerys Targaryen was relatively tight-lipped about the whole thing, but she wasn’t afraid to spill the beans about some aspects of production.

While speaking to the Reporter‘s Scott Feinberg, Clarke revealed that HBO is pulling out all the stops in order to fight potential spoilers and leaks from the set. “I don’t know that I even do now. I’m being serious. I think they’re filming a bunch of stuff and they’re not telling us…I think that they don’t even trust us.” To dissuade would-be spoilers, Clarke said that Game of Thrones creators will shoot numerous scenes. “There are lots of different endings that could happen; I think we’re doing all of them and we aren’t being told which is actually what’s going to happen.”

This militant take on production is likely a result of the show’s noted issues with piracy. Last season, the primetime fantasy was plagued with several internet torrents and a barrage of leaks that included highly sensitive information — actors’ emails and personal addresses found their way online after a group of hackers infiltrated the HBO server. It seems now that the company is doing everything it can to prevent another breach of similar magnitude.

We still have a bit of time until we’re able to witness the grand conclusion of Game of Thrones, but given the show’s epic track record, it’s safe to assume that we’ll be in for a real treat. Game of Thrones‘ final season will debut sometime in 2019.
