Adele’s ’25’ On Track To Break One-Week Sales Record

Above: Adele is set to make chart history as her '25' album sales reach record-breaking numbers

Adele’s new album “25” has already sold more than 2.3 million copies in the United States during its first three days on the market. Let that sink in… 2.3 million copies. That’s an incredible number for the music industry that has seen sales steadily fall in the digital era.

To put that number into perspective, if Adele’s 25 sells as expected, it will become the 20th album to sell at least a million copies in a single week in the Nielsen era. It would also instantly be the biggest selling album of 2015 in total, surpassing the sales of Taylor Swift’s 1989, which has sold 1.74 million this year (through November 12).

On Monday Nielsen Music said that Adele will almost certainly break the one-week record for sales, set by *NSYNC back in 2000. *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached debuted with 2,416,000 albums sold in the week ending March 26, 2000 and has since remained the only album to sell 2 million copies in the U.S. in a single week.

Before 25‘s release, it was reported that the album shipped 3.6 million physical copies to retailers across the globe.
