Batkid’s Day Of Superheroics Comes To A Close With A Key To The City Ceremony

Batkid: A 5-year-old leukaemia patient goes on giant superhero tour of San Francisco

Okay, I might cry. I mean, fight crime.

Going viral tonight… There’s a new vigilante prowling the midday streets, and he’s keeping San Francisco, I mean Gotham, safe from baddies. Calling himself Batkid, the young hero has just been unmasked by Commisioner Gordon and Gotham Police as five-year-old Miles Scott.

Young Miles  is a leukemia patient, now in remission. He was diagnosed at 18 months old. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation wanted to make Miles’ wish come true by turning him into Batman for a day, the city of San Francisco did one better, and became Gotham.

A resident of Tulelake, Miles travelled with his parents to San Francisco under the pretense of picking out a Batman costume– but the Riddler and the Penguin had other ideas. First, with the aid of a full-sized Batman, Batkid rescued a damsel in distress tied to a bomb on the Frisco cable car track. From there he sped off in the batmobile (one of two modified black lamborghinis) to catch the riddler robbing a bank. Tonight he will be summoned by a flash mob to nab the Penguin, then Batkid will be presented a key to the city for his daring-do.

7.000 residents of the Bay Area have come together to make this happen for Miles and his family, which means that something truly superheroic is going on in San Francisco today. It’s a phenomenon that made something extraordinary real. Just by wishing.
