What to do?
This city offers lots for the history buff including Citadel Hill, Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. If food and drink is what brought you to the East Coast, you can tour the local breweries, visit the Atlantic Beer Institute or you can even check out the Chowder Trail (yes, the province has created an official tour of the best chowders in the land). Where to eat?
Brunch seems to have become a national past time in this part of the country and people are more than willing to line up for some great brunch. Be sure to check out EDNA, you won’t be disappointed, other great options include Bistro Le Coq or The Coastal. For lunch, we recommend hitting the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market for some amazing fresh and locale eats. You can find everything from the best dumplings you have ever had at ChenPapa to amazing lobster rolls from Goldwater Lobster shack. This city has some amazing restaurants for Dinner (although they call it Supper here). Be sure to try the Bicycle Thief for some amazing Italian soul food, the seafood is fresh and the pasta is authentic. Just make sure you make a reservation, as this place is always packed and bumping. Other notables include: Five Fisherman (classic high end seafood dining), Chives or The Press Gang (they offer an amazing selection of raw oysters).
Where to drink?
The rumour that Maritimers love to drink (and know how to drink) is definitely true. For great cocktails be sure to hit The Middle Spoon, The Fireside Bar, Bitter End or Onyx. As expected, this is much more of a beer city (home to Alexander Keith’s Brewery and Propeller Brewery just to name a few) filled with great local pubs and breweries, so be more of a local and check out Maxwell’s Plum English Pub, The Henry House, or Brussels Restaurant & Brasserie for some of the best selections of beer in the city.
