If you’ve never vacationed with your significant other and you’re thinking now is the time, we have some great ideas for where to take your first trip and why they make an ideal vacation spot for new couples.

Belize

No matter what you and your significant other are into – be it jungle hikes, cave exploration, culture or beach time – you can find somewhere to do it in Belize. The small country is easy to get around and simple to navigate but still feels exotic enough to be adventurous. Belize also caters to all types of travellers, from those looking for luxury and swim-up bars, to those who don’t mind roughing it or travelling without a plan. If you just have a week, pick one spot (Tobacco Caye to get away from it all, San Ignacio for eco-adventure) but if you have two or more weeks you can move around and see more of this diverse country.

New York City

No one is every bored in NYC (and if they are, there’s something wrong with them). The energy and the wide array of things to see and do make this iconic city a great getaway for new couples. Museum-hop, check out galleries in Chelsea, explore Brooklyn, shop ‘till you drop, wander Central Park, or simply map out a few days of eating really great food and trying cocktails at trendy bars and under-the-radar hot spots. New York is also a great spot to go for quick getaway, if you only have a few days.

The Bahamas

Easy to get to, the Bahamas makes an ideal Caribbean vacation for new couples. Not only that, there are many different islands to explore if you feel like doing something a little different. The out islands of the Bahamas offer a twist on the everyday vacation – head to Harbour Island for the pink sand and laid back vibe, or eco-travel on Andros. But if you feel like keeping things simple, stick with Nassau, with an abundance of accommodation options and some great beaches.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Just a quick bus ride from Cancun airport Playa del Carmen offers a slightly less hectic take on fun in the sun than one of the countless all-inclusive resorts that dot Cancun. There’s a great long beach for walking, Avenida 5 (Fifth Avenue) is packed with bars, cafes, shops and restaurants, or take a ferry across to Cozumel for some snorkelling. Either way, the trendy, entertainment-packed city is sure to offer something for you and your girlfriend.
