Almost 60,000 People Have Signed the Get Snoop Dogg to Narrate Whole Season of Planet Earth Petition

The BBC nature documentary series Planet Earth is pretty much universally adored. The cinematography is jaw-dropping. The production is fantastic. And of course, the narration of David Attenborough, who was voted England’s “finest national treasure” in the year 2011, is fantastic.

Recently, however, Attenborough’s beloved narration has been given a run for its money by the most unlikely of people: iconic American rapper Snoop Dogg.

Snoop’s foray into narrating nature docs came courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel Live in a hilarious segment called Plizzanet Earth, which was first released in 2014. In this bit, Snoop narrates everything from pine martens eating baby squirrels, to crocodiles eating wildebeests, to tree frogs “havin’ an orgy.” Not surprisingly, the segment quickly became a viral sensation on the internet—and now, its fans are hungry for more.

One fan in particular, named Kelly Ooton, has taken up the mantle by creating a petition on change.org. The demands of this petition, which is addressed to Animal Planet, Snoop Dogg, Discovery Communications, and the BBC, are simple:

“We the people have agreed – we want Snoop Dogg to narrate full episodes of Planet Earth!”

The petition has a goal of 75,000 signatures which, at a glance, seems nearly impossible. As of Friday morning, however, it has amassed nearly 60,000 of those signatures—quite the feat considering it was only created on January 18. Then again, it probably helped that Snoop himself shared the petition on his official Twitter.

As exciting as the success of this campaign is for fans of Plizzanet Earth, however, it’s unlikely that Snoop will have the opportunity to narrate his own season of The BBC original, as it is no longer being created. That said, Snoop’s voice being edited in over footage from previously released episodes doesn’t seem all that unlikely. There are, after all, almost 60,000 people out there calling for it.
