Mother’s Day Gift Guide: Creative Gifts For Every Mom

It’s that time of the year again, Mother’s Day. Are you ready?

While many of us love our moms, it can be hard to come up with great gifts that show them how much they mean to us. Many people default to flowers or chocolates or jewellery…Which aren’t bad choices, but why not step it up this year. Every mom is different, the key is to listen to her and see what she really wants. Or what would really help her out. So on May 13th, show your mom how much she means to you with some creative gifting ideas this year. Here is our round up for all the Moms out there.

MOM WHO IS ALWAYS ON THE RUN
Every mom we know is always on the run but some moms actually love to run. It’s a great time for them to escape the hustle of the day (and the kids) and clear their mind. They love to lace up a shoes and hit the pavement. Here are some great ideas for her:

Fast Flexweave from REEBOK is the brand’s latest running shoe for women. The innovative, open fiure-8 weave makes the shoe super comfortable and lightweight. But don’t worry, the shoe is also great at supporting and stabilizing her feet as she runs. Available in three colour ways, $130 from Reebok.

Fit Bit has just launched the VERSA. Their latest models includes all the great things about FitBit – tracking your activities, sleep, heartrate, etc…But it now also includes smartphone notifications and a four day battery life. Mom will especially love the super stylish colours. From $249 and available via BEST BUY.

MOM WHO NEEDS MORE TIME
We don’t know any Moms who feel they have enough time to do everything. So why not gift them more time for Mother’s Day. It’s easy, trust us.

Why not get her a personal electronic assistant. The Amazon Alexa can help Mom with anything from how to bake a pie to order more garbage bags. Of course, it can cover the basics like what is the weather report or does Johnny have ballet class after school? Alexa will make life much easier. The Amazon Alexa now comes in 3 models, from $69.

Many working moms are always on the go. Why not make their lives easier with a portable steamer from Rowenta. Mom will save lots of time steaming rather than old school ironing. Plus the compact size makes it great for the travel and quick touch ups before that all important meeting. $69 via Amazon.ca.

MOM WHO ALREADY HAS EVERYTHING
We don’t know about your Mom but our Moms always say they already have everything they need. So why not buy them a gift that gives back…

Me to We is a Canadian founded charity that has been working with developing countries for years – empowering their people. We love their Mother’s Day Rafiki bracelets – handmade with love by women in Kenya.  It’s the perfect gift that gives back to other mothers. From $10 via Me to We.

Or donate in her name to Plan International Canada’s Gifts of Hope. For only $20, you can make a donation for medicine for moms and her babies.

MOM WHO JUST NEEDS A BREAK
Every mom needs a break. And to be pampered for a day or weekend. After all, they pamper and take care of us all. So why not take care of them?

Book them a staycation at a luxe hotel in your own city. If you are in Toronto, try out the Four Seasons. In Montreal, check out the newly designed Fairmount Queen Elizabeth (and spa). Or for Vancouver Moms, we love the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.

Create a great gift basket with some treats and a bottle of Champagne. Opt for the good stuff, like Moet, she will feel like a VIP.

Book them an appointment at the spa. Or even better, book a massage to come to their room (the Shangrila Toronto has a great spa).
Finally, why no meet Mom for Brunch the next day?

MOM’S WHO JUST NEED A LITTLE REALITY TV INSTEAD OF REALITY
Sometimes real life is just too real. So take the kids out for the afternoon or evening. Or take them camping for the weekend. And let her spend the weekend catching up on a little reality TV instead of reality. Set the PVR in advance to tape the episodes of her favourite reality TV show. But make sure you make a gift pack of her favourite snacks – M&Ms, Doritos, or some of that new low fat ice cream from Cool Way. If Mom wants a healthier option, why not pick her up a SodaStream Fizzi – the brand’s latest machine that instantly (and stylishly) makes sparkling water at home. Toss in some fresh fruit and Mom is set for an afternoon of reality television (and hydration).

MOM WHO NEEDS A NIGHT OUT WITH THE GIRLS
We hear from a lot of younger moms (or ‘newer’ moms) that they just need a night out with the girls. So why not set that up. Take care of the kids for the night and send them out on the town.

Buy her a beautiful new pair of shoes that she can show off to the girls that night. Add in a cute card, “tonight is your night, spend it dancing in these beautiful shoes with the girls…”

Or a beautiful watch from TISSOT. Just add a beautiful note, “Enjoy your night out with the girls. Take this time for yourself, just remember curfew is 3am lol”.

And then add in a dinner gift card to her favourite restaurant (psst all moms love The Keg). Or opt for a prepaid credit card to cover some drinks for her and the girls that night.
