Instagram Goes Live With New Feature

Instagram continues to strengthen its foothold in the world of social media. The popular photo sharing app, is now testing a live stream function. Dubbed “Go Insta”, users will now be able to broadcast live video, much like Instagram’s parent company, Facebook. Russian-based news outlet, T Journal, was quick to publish the news, while stateside tech bloggers, Engadget and The Verge, have begun to confirm the information.

The company is currently limiting “Go Insta” to its Russian market. The feature will likely be available to Western users at some point soon, but in the meantime, you can see multiple previews of the tech. According to reports, “Go Insta” will be located in the “Stories” function, which likely means it will be time-limited. You can check out screenshots of the feature below, via T Journal.

Back in August, Instagram included the “Stories” feature, which mirrors that of rival, Snapchat. Last week, the app inserted “Stories” into the main explore tab, hoping to increase interactivity. In a blog post, the company supported the move. “More than 100 million people visit Explore every day to discover photos and videos from people they don’t yet follow. The new suggested stories section highlights the most interesting Stories from across Instagram’s vast global community”. If “Go Insta” finds a permanent home in the app, the company will likely utilize the tech to enhance its explore feature.
