Woman Crush Wednesday: Kate Mara

Above: Kata Mara

Name: Kate Mara

Birthdate: February 27, 1983

Birthplace: Bedford, New York

Claim to fame: She has appeared in several big movies over the last decade, but she’s about to gain international fame when she stars in the Fantastic Four series as Sue Storm, The Invisible Woman.

What we can see her in next: The first film in the Fantastic Four series is to set to release in August 2015.

Interesting fact: She comes from a massive football family — she is the great granddaughter of both the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steeler’s founders.

Best quote: “All the actors I respect, especially old-Hollywood actors, the reason I think so many of them have had long careers, is that there is a sort of mystery about them. You don’t know what they do on Friday nights when they go home from work. You have no clue. You have this sort of fantasy about them.” — on why she admires the old-Hollywood actors.

Why we love her: Kate Mara is at the level of fame and success as an actress where you know them by face, but not by name. You see her and you know you’ve seen her in stuff before, but you can’t quite pinpoint what role and what movie it was. All this is about to change for her, though, as she’s going to be starring in the new Fantastic Four film series as Sue Storm, The Invisible Woman, set to release in theatres in August 2015.

So going by name, who is Kate Mara?

Well she’s been steadily working in Hollywood since 99, appearing in some pretty big movies. Some of her films include Brokeback Mountain, We Are Marshall, Shooter, Iron Man 2, 127 Hours, 10 Years, and the soon-to-be Fantastic Four series.  She’s also the sister of successful film star Rooney Mara (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network), and comes from one hell of a football family — she is a descendant of both the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steeler’s founders, her uncle is also the current President and Co-Owner of the Steelers.

Now it doesn’t get much better than that, a girl who not only loves football, but also has family members who own teams? Apparently there’s a clause in her contract that states she must attend all Super Bowls that include the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers. You don’t even have to be a football fan to appreciate that sort of fan loyalty.

So yeah, maybe you only know Kate Mara by face right now. But she’s that actress who’s been flirting on the cusp of “making it big” for what seems like the last ten years, and this summer, when the first Fantastic Four movie comes out, you will finally know her by name too.
