Best quote: “I had a small-town life — I worked at the local McDonalds for three years. I’m not sure why they kept me: I am something of a daydreamer and a dawdler, so they would only let me be the “friendly voice” that greeted you when you entered the restaurant.” — on her small-town upbringing in Canada.

Why we love her: What’s not to love about Rachel McAdams? She’s beautiful, ferociously talented, and is homegrown talent. She grew up a couple hours outside of Toronto in London, Ontario. Not only that, but after striking it big in Hollywood movies she still calls Toronto home (Harbord Village to be exact). She’s our crush this week because we love her movies and we love her for not forgetting about the country that made her when she became famous.

After graduating high school, McAdams headed to York University in Toronto where she completed a four-year degree in theatre. After completing school, she acted in some local television productions before getting her first big role in the 2002 comedy, The Hot Chick opposite Anna Faris. Then her big “claim to fame” roles came in 2004 and 2005 when she starred opposite Lindsay Lohan in the movie, Mean Girls as Regina George, which was also written by Tina Fey, as well as opposite Ryan Gosling in the famous romance movie, The Notebook as Allie Hamilton. Then came her role in Wedding Crashers, opposite comedy heavyweights such as Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, which was the final step to her launch as a real talent to watch in Hollywood. After those three movies, she was hailed as the new Hollywood “It” girl and pegged as the next Julia Roberts. She also won a BAFTA Rising Star award.

Since then, some of her biggest movies have been films such as State of Play, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Morning Glory, Midnight in Paris, The Sherlock Holmes movies, The Vow, and About Time.

Rachel McAdams is one of those actresses that you go see a movie just because you know they’re in it. Guys fall in love with her on the screen and girls find her funny and talented. She is absolutely delightful, charming, and has clearly proven that she’s a popular fixture in the movie business. Keep doing your thing Rachel McAdams and showing Hollywood that our little country can produce some top-of-the-line beautiful talent.
