Getting Over A Break Up? There’s An App For That

Above: What isn't there an app for?

There’s an app for everything these days. You can play games, check your bank account balance, comment on a friend’s status, and do extensive online shopping all from your smart phone. But your phone tends to be more of a hazard when you’re going through a break up and struggling not to contact your ex. Luckily, there are app developers out there who spotted the glaring gap in the market and have taken it upon themselves to help you through this difficult time in your life. Now you won’t need to lock your phone in a vault until you can trust yourself not to make contact with the dreaded ex. Because we all know that sometimes deleting their number isn’t enough to stop you.

KillSwitch

One of the worst parts about breaking up is having to log on to Facebook and go through and delete endless albums full of sickening selfies you took with your former beloved. Even if that wasn’t your style, you’re still bound to be tagged in a few photos, and a status or two with them. Short of enlisting a friend to do all the deleting for you, there isn’t much you can do to get rid of the evidence of your former happiness as painlessly as possible. Until KillSwitch. The app allows you to choose a target, and will erase everything connecting you to them on Facebook in a single click. That means no crying into a stiff drink while you reminisce over the way things were. Out of sight, out of mind.

Not only are you free of any and all reminders of them, but part of the proceeds from the app go towards the American Heart Association of New York. So your figurative broken heart will end up helping people with a literal broken heart.

Breakup RX

If you’re looking for something a little more intensive, Breakup RX’s 30 day program is just what the doctor ordered. It was developed by a licensed therapist to help you navigate your way through the worst part of a break up — the first month.

The app is broken up into 4 sections: What is Happening (a brief analysis of your mental, emotional, and physical status), What to Write (a therapeutic diary), What to Do (an action-based daily task or focus), and What Else (a motivational message timed for a 5pm push notification to help you get through the rest of the day).

The app helps you take moving on with your life one day at a time. The app is currently geared more towards women, but there’s no reason why the same strategy can’t work for men who are in the same getting over a rough break up boat.

Drunk Mode

Seeing as alcohol has a tendency to lower inhibitions, it follows that you’re in a lot more danger of breaking your vow not to contact your ex after you’ve had a few too many drinks. Drunk Mode lets you block your phone from contacting certain numbers for up to 12 hours. There’s even a feature that will let you recall any Snapchats you sent while under the influence — if you really want to know, that is.

The app can also help locate any friends that have a tendency to wander away when they’re drunk. Which, let’s face it, could be you. With this apps, your friends will be able to keep an eye on you and make sure you aren’t hiding in a bathroom stall frantically trying to uninstall all your break up apps.

Ex Lover Blocker

After a break up, your friends are often your best defence against folding under the desire to reach out to your ex. A good friend will literally throw their body between you and your phone to make sure you don’t make a huge mistake. Ex Lover Blocker can help by making it almost impossible to trick your friends into thinking you aren’t going to call the ex.

With the app installed, if you try to call your ex, an alert will be sent to you friends instead, who can then talk you off the ledge. If you choose to ignore their advice, the app will atomically post to Facebook, shaming you publicly for being so weak.
