David Spade Reveals The Worst ‘Saturday Night Live’ Host Ever

About: David Spade dishes on SNL, Rob Schneider, and Jack Nicholson

David Spade has revealed who he thinks the worst Saturday Night Live host ever was.

Spade, who was promoting his new memoir Almost Interesting on Bravo’s Watch What Happens: Live, was asked by host Andy Cohen about which former cast mate was the most overrated. Spade quickly spun the question to which host was the worst. His lightening speed answer: menacing martial artist, Steven Seagal.

“Maybe the host. Steven Seagal,” Spade said. “He was a little tough. I mean, he was actually tough, and he was tough to work with. It was hard. He did not want to play along.”

Spade isn’t the only person from the SNL cast to make this claim. Creator Lorne Michaels previously stated that Seagal, who hosted the show in April 1991, was less than pleasant to work with.

There have been stories that Seagal treated the cast and writers poorly during his time as host. It was even reported that he refused to leave his dressing room to perform a Hanz and Franz sketch because the characters, played by Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon, claimed to be able to beat him up.

While Spade was able to avoid Cohen’s actual question about his SNL castmates, the host did push him to discuss his supposed rivalry with Rob Schneider. Instead of pleading the fifth, Spade admitted: “We sort of had a little friction. We got hired together; we were best buddies. But some things happened. I think he didn’t put my name on a sketch the first time [and] he didn’t tell me about a writers’ meeting. So I thought he was trying to get me fired, which was very easy at that point.”
