Paul Walker has died at the age of 40. The actor, best known for his role in The Fast and the Furious movies, died in a car crash north of Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.

According to a post on Walker’s Facebook page, he was a passenger in friend’s car at the time of the crash. The crash happened while he was in Santa Clarita for a charity car show — organized by Paul and his organization Reach Out Worldwide — to support the Philippines typhoon relief effort. His friend was also killed in the fiery wreck.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department said the accident happened in community of Valencia, north of Los Angeles. Paul was the passenger in the two-seater Porsche Carrera GT when the driver somehow lost control and slammed into a light pole and a tree and burst into flames, killing both occupants. Photos from the scene show a pile of twisted metal and broken windows.

Walker, who is survived by his 15-year-old daughter Meadow, was working on the latest The Fast and the Furious movie at the time of his death. He also starred in the suspense drama Hours, which is set for release this month.
