HBO Announces ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 5 Premiere Date

The season 5 premiere date for HBO’s smashing hit Game of Thrones has been announced. The sure to be memorable return for the epic drama takes place on April 12th at 9:00pm.

Season 4 left off in a big way. Bran finally makes it to the northern weirwood tree, Stannis saves the day at the wall, Arya leaves for Bravos, Daenerys’ dragons are out of control, and Tyrion escapes from the dungeons and goes on a murdering spree.

Who knows what season 5 will have in store. We still don’t have a release date for Winds of Winter, and we are running out of storyline for some of our favourite characters. We can guess some Season 5 plot development based on the storyline in George R.R. Martin’s A Dance With Dragons, but if season 4 taught A Song of Ice and Fire readers anything, it is that the show is a beast of its own and HBO is not afraid of diverging from the books.

Things we can expect to see are:

  • Conflict of power in the North. With Stannis at the wall, the battle for possession of the north is inevitable. Will Jon Snow kneel to Stannis?
  • More from Daenerys’ dragons. Nothing draws in the viewers like some out-of-control dragons, so it won’t surprise anyone if Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion get out of hand in the season opener.
  • More Littlefinger and Sansa Stark awesomeness. With the death of Lysa Arryn, Peter Baelish will likely claim the Eyrie as he plays the game of thrones. Sansa is bound to be a part of Littlefinger’s plan, whatever that plan may be.
  • Arya working on notching some names off her kill list. We don’t know for sure what is in store for Arya as she heads for Bravos but we can be sure she has one thing in mind, valar morghulis, all men must die.

Season 5 will also see some new faces to the Game of Thrones cast.

Based off of the list of new cast members,we can assume season 5 will see a large storyline based on the House of Martell, but we will have to wait and see how things play out.

HBO hits Veep and Silicon Valley also return on April 12, 2015.
