Prepare yourselves to delve into the magical world of Middle-Earth through the eyes of its genius creator. This summer, fans will be able to see the life of J. R. R. Tolkien play out on screen in an upcoming eponymous biopic. Tolkien will examine the iconic author and his inspiration behind infamous novels the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Favourite‘s Nicholas Hoult will play the writer, with additional performances by Tom Glynn Carne, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, and Lily Collins as Tolkien’s wife Edith Bratt.

The official description gives us insight into the epic story being told. “Tolkien explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school,” begins the synopsis. “This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.”
