Netflix Drops First Trailer for Matt Groening’s ‘Disenchantment’

Above: Meet your new heroes, Princess Bean and Elfo

We’re finally getting our first look at the latest animated adventure from Matt Groening. Entitled, Disenchantment, the half-hour comedy will tell the tale of one Princess Bean who seeks to find a better life outside of her drab and dreary fairytale town. Little does she know, however, that the woods and plains beyond are full of danger and misgivings — of course, they will also be ripe for silly shenanigans.

According to the show’s creators, the plot will revolve around her royal highness, played by Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson, as she escape her doomed marriage to explore the wonders that await outside of her city walls. Along the way, she links up with friendly creatures Elfo and Luci, who will be played by Nate Faxon and Eric Andre respectively.

This will be Groening’s first major foray into the fantasy realm, and his first full series since the science fiction parody, Futurama. The showrunner’s breakthrough program, The Simpsons, is still going strong on FOX and was recently greenlit for a record 30th season. That aforementioned string of episodes will begin this September. Meanwhile, newcomer Disenchantment will air next month on August 17. As of now, the show will live exclusively on Netflix.

You can watch the debut trailer below via Netflix’s official YouTube channel.
