5 Recipes To Celebrate National Tequila Day

Every year on July 24th, the world stops and celebrates National Tequila Day. Seriously… it’s a thing. It’s also an excuse to mix up a cocktail or have a shot of tequila and celebrate.

Of course, we all know that tequila is a Mexican liquor which is made from blue agave plants, but what do you do with it when you’re not ready for another shot? To help you celebrate tonight here are a five tequila-based recipes that you can easily whip up at home. Salud!

Classic Margarita Cocktail

Ingredients:
• 1 1/2 oz tequila
• 1/2 oz triple sec (Cointreau is recommended)
• 1 oz fresh lime juice
• Lime wedge for garnish
• Salt or sugar to rim the glass (optional)

How:
• Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
• Shake well.
• If desired, salt the rim of a chilled margarita glass.
• Pour contents, with ice, into the glass and garnish with the lime wedge.

Tequila Sunrise

Ingredients:
• 4 oz orange juice
• 2 oz tequila
• 1/2 oz grenadine
• Orange slice for garnish
• Maraschino cherry for garnish

How:
• Pour tequila and orange juice into a highball glass with ice cubes.
• Stir.
• Slowly pour grenadine around the inside edge of the glass, it will sink and slowly rise to mix with the other ingredients.
• Garnish with an orange slice and cherry.

Paloma

Ingredients:
• 2 oz blanco or reposado tequila
• 6 oz fresh grapefruit soda
• 1/2 oz lime juice
• Salt or sugar to rim the glass (optional)

How:
• Rim a collins glass with salt or sugar.
• Fill the glass with ice and add the tequila and lime juice.
• Top it off with grapefruit soda.

Hornitos “Not Just Any Sangrita”

Ingredients:
• 6 parts Hornitos Plata Tequila
• 5 parts Tomato Juice
• 5 parts Pineapple Juice
• 1 part Fresh-Squeezed Lime Juice
• Teaspoon of hot sauce
• 1 pinch of salt
• 4 Mexican Worcestershire Sauce
• 1/2 Teaspoon Crushed Garlic

How:
• Mix ingredients 2-8 well; chill in the fridge.
• Serve in a tall shot glass. (serves 6)
• For best flavor, make a day before serving.
• Serve your freshly-made Sangrita with a smooth shot of Hornitos Plata Tequila.

Peligroso “Sangree”

Ingredients:
• 1.5oz of Peligroso Cinnamon Tequila
• 5oz of triple sec (Cointreau is recommended)
• 2oz of Red Wine
• 1.5 oz Ginger Ale

How:
• Mix tequila, cointreau and red wine together in a glass.
• Top off with Ginger Ale.
• Garnish with orange twist.
