BAPE’s latest collaboration is more evidence that millennial nostalgia is in full swing this year. The influential streetwear brand is turning to cartoon, trading card, and video game giant Pokémon for a special capsule series that will have hypebeasts everywhere lining up for a piece. The line will soon make its debut appearance at a pop-up location in Isetan, a popular Japanese department store. There has yet to be an announcement regarding a wider release, but we have little doubt that the series will appear on online resell markets.
This is the first time that BAPE has worked with the iconic pocket monster franchise, but the design team has recently joined up with Anti Social Social Club, Champion, and Carhartt. Pokemon is also not the wildest world BAPE has ventured into. The company has also linked up with Disney, Marvel, and even Pepsi since its foundation way back in 1993; proving that nothing is off limits for these forward-thinking creatives.
As of now, the new run of pieces will consist of graphic tees featuring the faces of classic creatures like Pikachu, Charmander, and Bulbasaur. There are also a pair of general designs which are adorned by Pokéballs. If you happen to be visiting an Isetan anytime soon, you can cop the garments there from August 21-26. The BAPE and Pokémon items will also be available at official branded stores throughout Japan.
