Last week, while the crowd cheered for the latest and greatest in cutting, colouring and styling at the 26th annual Contessa Awards—the Canadian Oscars of hair—we scoured the crowd for cool-looking coifs. Seven snap-worthy hairstyles were captured which you’ll find below, along with product recommendations from Daniel Naumovski, co-owner of the award-winning salon TAZ Hair Inc.

The Style: The Wave as seen on Daniel Ditommaso.
The Product: Schwarzkopf 3D Men Strong Hold Gel. “This style demands a strong-hold gel to keep it in place, says Naumovski. “Apply the gel when the hair is still damp so you can manipulate the wavy look while you blow dry.” Schwarzkopf 3D Men Strong Hold Gel is available for $16.50 at Schwarzkopf hair salons across Canada.

The Style: The Pompadour with a hipster beard as seen on Etienne Cloutier.
The Product: F. Miller Hair Oil and Beard Oil. “The thing that’s great about hair and beard oils is that you can leave them in all day long,” says Naumovski. “Not only will they help you style your hair into the position you want, they’ll also condition your scalp and skin.” F.Miller Hair Oil and Beard Oil are available for $38 and $34 at the Nomad store in Toronto and online.

The Style: The Twist as seen on Jameel de Stefano.
The Product: Kérastase Curl Fever. “For softer looking, twisted curls like these you want to use a medium-hold gel that simultaneously keeps the hair upright and defines the shape of the curl,” says Naumovski. Kérastase Curl Fever is available for $38 at Kérastase.

The Style: The Josh Holloway as seen on Nicholas Causarano.
The Product: Hask Monoi Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. For a healthy-looking, longer style Naumovski recommends, “washing your hair every other day with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner to maintain and to enhance the condition of your hair.” Hask Monoi Oil Shampoo and Conditioner are available for $8.99 each at Walmart stores across Canada.

The Style: The Faux, Faux-Hawk as seen on Raymond Cunningham.
The Product: Old Spice Spiffy Sculpting Pomade. “They key here, is to be able to have structure in the front section of the hair,” says Naumovski. “A pomade allows you to pull and spike out the pieces you want.” Old Spice Spiffy Sculpting Pomade is available for $6.99 at Walmart stores across Canada.

The Style: The Bradley Cooper as seen on Rino Balzano.
The Product: OGX Biotin & Collagen Root Boost Spray. “To get this look right, you need to spray a root booster close to the scalp and then work it through the hair before blowing it dry,” says Naumovski. “Volume, lift and movement are what you’re going for.” OGX Biotin & Collagen Root Boost Spray is available for $9.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart.

The Style: The Nouveau Hipster as seen on Steven Weeks.
The Product: Garnier Fructis Shine Wax. “You don’t want your hair to look greasy or wet, but you also want to keep it in place,” says Naumovski. “A hard-hold hair wax lets you do that and still have soft- and touchable-looking hair.” Garnier Fructis Shine Wax is available for $8.99 at well.ca.
