Fragrance Of The Month: dunhill ICON EDP

Since dunhill first debuted in 1893 with equestrian saddles and harnesses in tow, and then evolved into driving apparel complete with leather covers for cars, metal accessories and even a magazine, Motor Mart, it has been synonymous with: contemporary gentlemen.

Now a luxury fashion house, most recently renowned for securing designer John Ray at its creative helm in 2013, the oh-so British label has become coveted for its dapper menswear, sleek leather goods and classic fragrances.

Number 19 on the fragrant roster is ICON a masculine brew that reinforces this fact. Like a stirred martini with a twist of lemon, the distinctive scent starts off smooth and tangy before being intertwined with smoky leather, oakmoss and oud, and a dash of spicy black pepper and cardamom. The eau de parfum exudes confidence. And as it should, considering famed photographer Annie Leibovitz captured the image of its decidedly handsome spokes model, the Manchester born and raised Andrew James Cooper.

And while he, the juice and the ad campaign are beyond make-you-sweat impressive, so is the flacon that contains it all. Designed by Mark Eisen, ICON’s bottle is cylindrical, heavy and encased in machine-tooled metal, reflective of the brand’s industrial past and urban presence.

Dunhill ICON EDP fragrance comes in 50 ml for $88 and 100 ml for $126. It’s available at select Hudson’s Bay stores across Canada.
