Fragrance Of The Month: Bastide Néroli Lumière EDT

Don’t let its pink-box packaging or the thin burgundy border on the bottle’s label fool you.
Bastide‘s Néroli Lumière Eau De Toilette was made for men…and women. Based on the French brand’s philosophy that less is more, this gender-free fragrance is as simplistically sophisticated in its aesthetic, as it is its skilfully mix-mastered blend.

Distilled in the arrestingly beautiful and lush Aix-en-Provence in the south of France—home to international celebrity and editorial hairstylist Frederic Fekkai who with his wife Shirin acquired and now manage the 25-year-old brand—Bastide oozes old-school craftsmanship. And rightly so. Each cylindrically shaped glass flacon is filled with local, good-for-you ingredients and molded by the love of its local artisans.

Proud of their sunny terrain where the sun shines 300 days out of the year, these artisans conscientiously ensure their parfums are sulfate, phthalate, paraben, petrochemical, mineral oil, silicone, talc, GMOs, DEA, MEA, TEA, PBAs, toluene, gluten and cruelty-free. Instead, they choose to infuse each eau with light and energy and Néroli Lumière is no exception.

Known as the flower of the sun, Neroli is a morning flower and when infused with sparkling lemon it becomes a coveted, citrus scent. Tart, fresh pink grapefruit and juicy lemon are first swirled into a blend of home-grown cassis before being entrenched in the sensually heady white blooms of orange blossom, jasmine and of course, neroli. A layer of white wood and warm amber complete the eau, adding an intimate and quiet strength. The overall effect is bright, intoxicating and easy to wear with its lingering woody warmth.

Bastide‘s Néroli Lumière Eau De Toilette is available exclusively at Holt Renfrew in Canada. The price is $165 CAD for 100 mL and $42 CAD for 10 mL.
