Fragrance Of The Month: Maison Francis Kurkdjian, L’Homme À la Rose EDP

This month? We try out Maison Francis Kurkdjian, L’Homme À la Rose EDP

It’s not often the rose features so boldly in a men’s cologne that it’s part of the actual name. But then, Maison Francis Kurkdjian has never played by the rules. So it’s only natural, the eponymous designer’s latest eau, L’Homme À la Rose EDP, is one of a kind in both scent and title.

On first spritz the fragrance smells fresh and green, like taking a walk through a garden. Its natural vibe is quickly enhanced with punctuations of tart grapefruit accord and earthy-sweet Damask rose that give it a sense of energy and purpose. Then, as warm woody notes are paired with the delicate may rose and begin to seep in the elixir becomes more intimate and peaceful. Later, as herbal sage, dry amber wood and ethereal labdanum take the forefront the eau is left with an enticing and aromatic finish that feels both radiant and masculine overall.

Equally masculine is the strength and weight of L’Homme À la Rose’s bottle. While ensconced in the French brand’s signature heavy, squat glass complete with its sharp square lines, the addition of a raw zinc topper imbibes a sense of strength and graceful power. The flacon’s graphics highlight a blooming rose along the sides of the boxed packaging, while the label’s green and pink typography are balanced with the handwritten word l’Homme, as a formidable dedication from the perfumer himself.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian, L’Homme À la Rose EDP, $355 for 70 ml, available online at www.holtrenfrew.com.
