Men’s facial hair trends seem to come and go. But, it seems we now live in an era where almost anything goes. Clean-shaven used to be the dominant facial hair trend in the past, but its taken a back seat to stubble and groomed beards in recent years. That means your Dad’s old school shaver just isn’t going to cut it anymore. Thankfully, technology has kept up with the times and there are a number of different trimmers out there to keep you well groomed. And, since we take grooming very seriously here at AmongMen, we thought we’d take one of the newest trimmers for a test drive.

The new Philips Stubble Trimmer is part of the brand’s Beardtrimmer 5000 series. It promises to let you achieve the exact results you want, no matter if it is the perfect 3-day stubble or a short or longer beard. But does it work? Yes! It just might be the best stubble trimmer we have tried in recent years. Here’s how it stacked up.

The Stubble Trimmer features:

  • Double sharpened full metal blades for a closer cut.
  • 17 trim lengths settings. Yes, 17. You can easily select your preferred trim length by simply turning the zoom wheel on the handle until the length you want is displayed. You can select anything from 0.4 – 7mm with 0.2mm precision. No more fiddling with those attachable plastic comb guides.
  • Dynamic Beard Guide system that features integrated hair lift combs that lift the hairs up to the level of the blades for even trimming results.
  • Long last battery that lasts up to 70 minutes from a one-hour charge. And you can still run the trimmer while you are plugged in.
  • Fully waterproof for easy clean up or trimming in the shower.
  • 2 year warranty.

Results:
We tried this baby out for a few weeks and here’s what we found: It actually delivers on it’s promises. The length selection dial made selecting our perfect amount of stubble effortlessly. The blades cut evenly and efficiently – we didn’t have to go over the same spot multiple times to achieve the results we wanted. Plus, the process was smooth and left little to zero skin irritation on sensitive skin. Our stubble was the perfect 3 day length every time we used it. We even tried this baby out on our nether regions and it did a fine job at manscaping.

The trimmer charged quickly and lasted for about 10 trims or so. And, you can still trim while plugged in – which is important because not all trimmers do this. Further, the blades are shelf-sharpening so you don’t need to sharpen them yourself and there is no oil or lubrication required. We found they stayed just as sharp after the 30th trim as the first.

Verdict:
Highly recommended. We just wish it came with a charging stand to hold the trimmer while it charges (and when not in use) rather than simply a cord.
