When award-winning scientist, environmentalist and broadcaster David Suzuki speaks everyone in Canada and around the world listens. The long-time eco-warrior has embarked on a new campaign to advocate for the rights of Canadians to live in a healthy environment in the country’s Constitution. Currently, more than 110 countries around the world officially acknowledge their people’s right to live in a healthy environment, whereas Canada does not.

“From voting rights to our concept of race and religion, our society has shifted to recognize the values we hold dear,” said Dr. Suzuki. “It’s time for the same thing to happen with our right to breathe fresh air, drink clean water and eat healthy food. Nothing is more important.”

To push for this change, the David Suzuki Foundation has organized and launched the Blue Dot Tour which will travel from coast-to-coast and visit 20 Canadian cities to raise awareness and support through concerts and community events. It features special guests and musicians, such as Neil Young, Barenaked Ladies, Feist and celebrated author Margaret Atwood. The tour started on September 24th in St. John’s, Newfoundland and ends in Vancouver, British Columbia on November 9th.

A nationwide tour that includes some of Canada’s top musicians and personalities isn’t complete without throwing an element of fashion and style into the mix. Long-time collaborator and supporter of Dr. Suzuki and the David Suzuki Foundation, Roots is taking part as the tour’s official supplier of merchandise and has designed The Blue Dot Collection, which consists of men’s and women’s hoodies, t-shirts and toques. Comprised from 100 percent organic cotton, the tops come in monochromatic colours such as black and white etched with impactful statements, like “Ordinary People Extraordinary Action,” and include the portrait of Dr. Suzuki.

“We are proud to support such a worthy initiative and to be associated with David Suzuki, one of the world’s great environmentalists,” said Roots Co-Founder Michael Budman. “We’ve always respected and been inspired by David’s commitment to defend the environment and his concern about what kind of world we’ll be leaving to our children and grandchildren. The Blue Dot Tour is a wonderful way to draw attention to the need for stronger environmental protection.”

The Blue Dot Collection can be purchased at tour venues, online at Roots.com and in select stores. Prices range from $38-98 CAD and proceeds from the sale of these products will help fund the movement.
