Woman Crush Wednesday: Elizabeth Olsen

Name: Elizabeth Chase Olsen

Birthdate: February 16, 1989

Birthplace: Sherman Oaks, California

Claim to fame: Her breakout role was in 2011 when she appeared in the critically acclaimed film Martha Marcy May Marlene, in which she was nominated for and won numerous critics awards for her portrayal of Martha.

What we can see her in next: She stars in her first mainstream role in Godzilla, which opened on May 15. She has also signed on to play the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the 2015 sequel to the Avengers.

Interesting fact: Even with her big sisters’ massive fortune, she lived in a tiny 300 square foot, one bedroom apartment while she was studying at New York University.

Best quote: “I was embarrassed that I even wanted to become an actress because coming from LA, with two older sisters in the business and a mom who had been a ballet dancer, it was such a cliché.” – on pursuing acting and coming from a showbiz family.

Why we love her: Well, unless you were a diehard Full House fan back in the day, Elizabeth Olsen is probably your favourite Olsen girl. That’s because she didn’t become just another child star that always ends up slowly declining out of the spotlight until they’re nothing more than a faint memory from our childhood. Instead, Elizabeth Olsen spent her time having a fairly normal upbringing (discounting her famous sisters) and decided to pursue her love for theatre after high school, by enrolling in New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. It’s here where she spent the time necessary to get herself an education, have a normal life as long as she could before pursuing Hollywood, as well as really build some credible acting chops that could help her to become a legitimate actress, and not just some teenybopper brand name. Well, it’s all paying off now in a big way.

Elizabeth Olsen did start acting at a young age, where she began appearing in her sisters’ movies and shows, as well as started auditioning for her own projects soon after. But her big breakout role didn’t come until 2011 when she appeared in the critically acclaimed film Martha Marcy May Marlene, in which she was nominated for and won several awards. She has also appeared in the remake of the horror movie Silent House. She also starred with Dakota Fanning in Very Good Girls in 2013, which is where she also met her now fiancé, fellow actor Boyd Holbrook. Last year in January 2013, she was nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star Award.

She’s been patient for a long time and has paid her dues, and now, she’s about to make it big in the mainstream with her role in Godzilla. That’s why she’s our crush this week, because our favourite Olsen did it right and made her own name for herself and didn’t try to steal her sisters’ fame and money. Sure Mary-Kate and Ashley were huge child stars, but Elizabeth’s different, she’s well on her way to becoming a huge adult star.
