Woman Crush Wednesday: Selena Gomez

Above: Selena Gomez

Name: Selena Gomez

Birthdate: July 22, 1992

Birthplace: Grand Prairie, Texas

Claim to fame: She came to prominence in 2007 after she was cast in the lead role in the Disney Channel television series Wizards of Waverly Place. Since she has become known as quite the entertainer phenom, with successful careers both as a film actress and a pop singer.

Where we can see her next: Gomez’s second solo studio album Revival releases on October 9. Followed by a concert tour and several new film releases set for 2016.

Interesting fact: She suffers from lupus, which is an autoimmune disease that attacks your tissues and organs, leaving you tired, depressed and achy. She had to cancel her concert tour in 2013 because her symptoms were too severe.

Best quotes: “My perfect guy wears converse, is totally laid back, and doesn’t worry about being cool.”

Why we love her: If you’ve seen the album cover for Selena Gomez’s second solo album Revival then you will know exactly why she’s our WCW this week. The former Disney star has come a long way — both from her Disney TV days and from Justin Bieber (yeah, we had to do it). On the cover of the album she’s sitting down topless with her arms and legs crossed. It’s very Emily Ratajkowski in the ‘Blurred Lines’ video esque.

Could the cover be her revenge against all the nasty comments she received about her fully figured bikini pictures earlier this year?

If it is, she definitely won that battle. She looks phenomenal.

This might seem like a departure from the squeaky-clean music, TV, and film star we are used to seeing. But with roles such as the one she had in the controversial film Spring Breakers in 2013, it’s clear she’s doing the typical former Disney star thing and really trying to shed that teenybopper image by cranking up that sex appeal — or in Miley Cyrus’ case, just sex, no appeal. Thankfully Gomez hasn’t gone completely Miley Cyrus and started gyrating on stage in ways that make even grown men feel uncomfortable.

Selena Gomez has definitely done well for herself, though. She has a decently successful film career in the works. I think I saw her in something with Ethan Hawke recently? That co-star alone must mean you’re experiencing at least a moderate level of success. And now the release of her second solo studio album on October 9, which already seems promising with singles such as “Good for You” already doing well on the charts.

But most importantly, now that her Justin Bieber days are long behind her, we can all finally admit that we find Selena Gomez sexy and all secretly want to take Justin Bieber’s sloppy seconds and make her our girlfriend.
