Jake Gylenhaal is no stranger to changing his body for a role. He bulked up quite a bit for the lead role in Prince of Persia, but lately he has been showing up on red carpets looking gaunt. Currently in production, Night Crawler stars Jake Gylenhaal as a freelance crime reporter who stumbles upon the underground criminal world of LA.
Gylenhaal says of his character, “I knew that Lou was literally and figuratively hungry,” and adds that he’s emulating his character by getting into a “mode where I was always a bit hungry”. He lost close to 20 pounds for the role, and says he didn’t follow a strict diet plan. “I just love this movie. That’s how I did it. There was really no technique.” Maybe he just doesn’t want to publicize the unhealthy ways in which he lost weight for a movie.
