80s Reboots That Need To Happen

This Friday, the reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise will finally hit theatres. After whispers regarding production, rumoured cast feuds, and multiple canned scripts, we'll finally be able to see director Paul Feig’s version of the film. This new version also means that we'll be losing out on a traditional threequel of the series.

The new Ghostbusters film has grabbed a considerable amount of attention during the build up of its release. Even before the movie was able to land on screen, everyone had already debated the casting, the lack of plot continuation, and the uncertain involvement of producer Ivan Reitman. In reality, it never mattered how the filmmakers proceeded, it was going to be an incredible feat to reboot such a beloved franchise. The silver lining however, is that Ghostbusters is armed with a talented cast and supported by an equally talented crew. This reboot could end up being great.

And if it's indeed great, it could open up another wave of 80’s inspired reboots. We decided to get ahead of ourselves a bit, by suggesting a few classic flicks that deserve their own retelling.

TOP GUN

The last time Hollywood set out to make a fighter jet movie, things didn’t work out so well. Unlike the Jamie Foxx vehicle, Stealth, a Top Gun remake would be a safer bet in today’s box office. All you need is some hot shot leading actors, some Fast And The Furious style bromance, and you’ve set yourself up for a mindless action movie for the masses. It doesn’t have to be a critical hit, it just has to ignite the same patriotism and chutzpah that the previous one did. If done right, a new Top Gun could a worthwhile outing to the theatres.
