80s Reboots That Need To Happen

This Friday, the reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise will finally hit theatres. After whispers regarding production, rumoured cast feuds, and multiple canned scripts, we'll finally be able to see director Paul Feig’s version of the film. This new version also means that we'll be losing out on a traditional threequel of the series.

The new Ghostbusters film has grabbed a considerable amount of attention during the build up of its release. Even before the movie was able to land on screen, everyone had already debated the casting, the lack of plot continuation, and the uncertain involvement of producer Ivan Reitman. In reality, it never mattered how the filmmakers proceeded, it was going to be an incredible feat to reboot such a beloved franchise. The silver lining however, is that Ghostbusters is armed with a talented cast and supported by an equally talented crew. This reboot could end up being great.

And if it's indeed great, it could open up another wave of 80’s inspired reboots. We decided to get ahead of ourselves a bit, by suggesting a few classic flicks that deserve their own retelling.

THE LOST BOYS

Hollywood’s obsession with vampires seems to be cooling off as of late. For this reason alone, a reboot of The Lost Boys should’ve been in the works at the beginning of the decade. This seeming lack of interest shouldn’t deter producers from delving back into Shumacher’s 80s hit. A dark and gritty retelling of the story, would do wonders fitting into the modern vampire aesthetic. How cool what it be to get director matching that dark tone, like True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga? Oh, and the new Lost Boys movie would deserve another awesome soundtrack. But we still wouldn’t mind if they threw in another INXS song.
