The Most Anticipated Movies of 2017

Above: Sequels, spin-offs, and prequels are set to hit theatres in 2017

This week, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will hit theatres worldwide. The film will be the first in a planned anthology series, and is poised to become the year's biggest box office smash. Fans of the series have been eagerly anticipating the film since its fateful announcement last March, and if the early reviews are any indication, the new adventure won't disappoint. What has been slightly disappointing, however, is the quality of big-budget productions this past year. The critical failure of Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman, and Independence Day: Resurgence left a sour taste in our mouths, and put a damper on the excitement of many releases.

Despite its failures, we did get some decent flicks in 2016, with Rogue One standing out as the best and truest blockbuster. While there was salvageable content, reflecting on last year's massive titles, makes 2016 seem mediocre at best. There may be a few weeks left in December, but we now have our sights set on 2017. To help get us even more amped, we've done some digging and narrowed down the most exciting movies of 2017. Pull out that new agenda of yours, and mark down these dates on your calendar. You're not going to want to miss these highly anticipated blockbusters.

Beauty and the Beast

Speaking of live adaptations, there seems to be a ton of excitement surrounding Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The film’s trailer broke records when it launched on YouTube last month, becoming the most-watched teaser in a single day. Like its sister company, Marvel, Disney has rarely put out anything below average, so we’ll remain hopeful for this latest full-length feature. You can catch Emma Watson and Ewan McGregor in Beauty and the Beast, when it releases on March 17th.
