In Your Ears: Summer Music Picks

Above: Some of the summer's best albums

The month of August is, without fail, an amazing time for movie-goers. The same can’t always be said for music buffs. The summer heat tends to bring with it, a dry spell of new tunes. We have already been bombarded by the songs of the summer, which have dominated the radio since the beginning of the season. We understand that it may all start to blend into each other now, which is exactly why we've put this list together. If you’re tired of hearing the same three songs over and over again, then you need to check out these summer albums. With a few from different genres, you’re bound to find something up your alley.

R&B

Blood Orange – Freetown Sound

We’ve already expressed our love for Blood Orange in our Frank Ocean piece. The funky Dev Hynes has gifted us one of the year’s best releases, regardless of genre. It’s politically-charged, heart wrenching, and worth every listen, especially if R&B is your thing.

Maxwell – blackSUMMER’snight

Maxwell returned to the scene last month with blackSUMMER’snight. This is the fifth album from the crooner, and it’s a departure from his generic contemporaries. If you’ve been looking for something that Sade would approve of, go cop blackSUMMER’snight.
