Here’s the New Teaser for ‘Star Trek: Discovery’

Above: The brand new show will launch later this year

While the iconic Star Trek universe has found a new home on the big screen thanks to director J.J. Abrams, the beloved franchise has been absent on television for nearly twelve years. In theatres, the film trilogy was armed with high stakes action and plenty of wry wit, but unlike the narratives explored in television versions, its grounded, human element wasn’t quite the same. After a long wait, fans of the series are finally getting another instalment to delve into, and they’ll be doing so relatively soon. Star Trek: Discovery was officially revealed in late 2015, but almost everything regarding the program was kept under wraps.

Eventually, small production details leaked to the press, including a bit of casting news. Walking Dead star, Sonequa Martin-Green, was brought on board for an undisclosed role, as was Anthony Rapp, and Crouching Tiger‘s Michelle Yeoh. Another big, yet expected detail, was that Star Trek: Discovery will exist outside of the recent cinematic universe – which has since been confirmed as an alternate timeline. This newfound information was enough to feed out intrigue, but still, it didn’t quite ramp up our excitement to the fullest. That is until, earlier today, when fans received an awesome new trailer.

In the few electric minutes, viewers are treated to glimpses of new uniforms, new aliens, and of course, the newest flagship. A baritone voiceover also promises a trueness to the original legacy, which is good news for Star Trek traditionalists. Make sure you get that spacebar ready, because you’ll want to pause the trailer to soak in every detail. You can watch the official teaser below, via YouTube. Expect the show to drop sometime later this year on CBS.
