Some fragrances arrive quietly; Carolina Herrera’s Bad Boy arrived like a lightning strike in 2019, and its collection has since grown into one of the house’s most recognizable fragrance stories. Built around the now-iconic, lightning-bolt bottle and the idea that modern masculinity can hold contradictions of strength and sensitivity, confidence and emotion, darkness and light, the eau is not just good enough to spritz, it is a bottle worth collecting.
Which is why we’ve added its latest eau Bad Boy Cobalt EDP to our vanity.
Fresh, woody and aromatic, the fragrance’s spicy, floral and earthy elixir exudes confidence. Notes of bright, snappy pink pepper open the eau before being absorbed in geranium’s green, floral quality. Warm cedarwood notes bring a grounding feel, while botanical lavender, savoury and damp mineral truffle, sharp vetiver and smoky accents add depth, keeping the eau’s composition from becoming too clean or predictable. The overall effect is fresh and invigorating, while simultaneously feeling sexy and bold—the perfect combination of polish with rebellion.
And then, of course, there’s the bottle. Reworking the brand’s signature lightning bolt in gradient cobalt-blue glass with black lacquer detailing, it’s sculptural, glossy and distinct. Like an object you’d want on display…which is very much the point.
Carolina Herrera Bad Boy Cobalt Blue EDP, $48 for 10ml, $145 for 50ml, $175 for 100ml and $218 for 150ml, available at Sephora and Shoppers Drug Mart.
