Mulder and Scully Reunite for New Audiobook ‘X-Files: Cold Cases’

Above: Mulder and Scully are back at it again

Fans of the classic sci-fi series, the X-Files, were treated to some incredible news this week. As some of you may already know, a mini reboot landed on small screens in January of last year and delivered a handful of nostalgia-evoking episodes. Despite the recent iteration’s success, however, the future of the beloved television show was still up in the air. Since last year’s finale, there have been multiple rumblings out of Fox that the network is actively looking to extend the saga in some way shape or form. Exact details of the alleged continuation remained pretty damn sparse, but diehards around the world clung onto hope. After a bit of uncertainty it appears as though we’ll all be able to get a dose of X-Files goodness in a new and completely unexpected medium.

Mulder and Scully took to social media yesterday and announced a new audiobook coming our way entitled, X-Files: Cold Cases. The project is currently slated for a release this July, and will chronicle the adventures of the FBI agents as they try and solve some of the bureau’s unsolved investigations. The audiobook takes place after the events of 2008’s theatrical release, I Want To Believe, and will be available to stream on Audible. According to creators, the project will include appearances from all of the original characters, including the menacing Cigarette Smoking Man. “As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear,” the press release reads, “former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department, but the U.S. government and forces not of this world.”
