Netflix Releases ‘House Of Cards’ Season 5 Trailer

Netflix has released the first trailer for the highly anticipated fifth season of House of Cards.

Season 5 will pick up right after Season 4, with President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) battling for his political life in a contentious election while also struggling to maintain his marriage with his wife, Claire (Robin Wright). In the just-released trailer, Underwood laments that the American people are in need of constant supervision and he plans to be calling the shots for the foreseeable future. “One nation, Underwood,” he says in a corruption of the Pledge of Allegiance.

You can watch the tense first trailer for the show’s fifth season below:

Of course, the trailer confirms the return of Frank’s ever loyal Chief of Staff Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), political consultant LeAnn Harvey (Neve Campbell), Secretary of State Catherine Durant (Jayne Atkinson), Seth Grayson (Derek Cecil), Underwood biographer Thomas Yates (Paul Sparks), and political rival Will Conway (Joel Kinnaman).

The new season will also be the first without creator Beau Willimon. In his absence, Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese – two senior writers who have been with the show since 2014 – have been promoted to showrunners.

Season 5 of House of Cards hits Netflix on Tuesday, May 30.
