We really didn’t have to panic, but it’s comforting nonetheless. Thanks to a clever series of tweets, it’s officially been confirmed that Stranger Things is returning for a third season. Netflix turned to social media on Friday and asked its followers if they’d care for a new batch of episodes from the Duffer brothers. The subsequent poll was quickly flooded with an overwhelming amount of submissions, and eventually ended up with 500,000 clicks.

This recent bit of news may be unsurprising, but it does mean that the next edition of the popular science fiction adventure is now very much in development. Although a release date for the upcoming season has yet to be revealed, we’re hedging our bets and expecting a launch late next year. If the break between the first and second seasons is any indication, we may even have to wait until early 2019.

Whenever we return to Hawkins, we do know that the show is in very capable hands. In an interview with Variety, the Duffer brothers let it slip that there’s a detailed outline for both the upcoming and fourth seasons of Stranger Things. Still, the showrunners are keeping everyone on their toes and admitting that things are still subject to change. “All of our ideas will probably change within a month or two,” says Matt Duffer. “They always do. They always evolve so that why I’m not going to say anything.”

Regardless of the smokescreen thrown by its creators, David Harbour (Jim Hopper) told The Independent that he is privy to a planned (and epic) finale. “We’re talking about ending Stranger Things at either season four or season five. I know there is an end to the story. It’s a very beautiful end, which we want to tell and then get out.”
