Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PS3, Xbox 360)
Moronic title aside, this gem from Japanese developer Platinum Games takes Metal Gear’s less-than-loved protagonist, Raiden, and makes him awesome. How? Basically, this Metal Gear is all about running around with a giant sword and slicing cyborgs into tiny pieces. The melee-combat is both easy to pick up and complex, and the game mixes waves of baddies with challenging boss battles that require skill and timing. The pièce de résistance: the slow-mo feature Blade Mode, where you can dice opponents in dozens of spastic, hilarious ways.
