The summer blockbuster season is already heating up, and while we’re all still recovering from Avengers: Infinity War, it’s already time to snag tickets to another action adventure. Next month, fans will be treated to the grand return of Superfly.

The forthcoming film is, of course, a reboot of the original 1972 version directed by Gordon Parks Jr. Much like the blaxploitation classic, the modern retooling will feature a strong mix of veteran and up-and-coming cast members and a standout soundtrack by a high profile musician.

This new Superfly will come equipped with performances by Trevor Jackson (Grown-ish), Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), and Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time). Instead of soul legend, Curtis Mayfield, the new flick will have a retooled score courtesy of Atlanta trap icon, Future. Behind the camera is Brampton native and music video king, Director X, who has shot visuals for Drake, Sean Paul, Rihanna, and many more.

Superfly will tell the story of Youngblood Priest (Jackson), who fights his way out of the Atlanta drug trade before he loses the ones he loves. The story was penned by Alex Tse, who famously co-wrote the script for 2009’s epic superhero flick, Watchmen. You can watch the trailer for Superfly below via YouTube.

The film itself hits theatres on June 15. To help hype yourself up for the release, check out a song from the hip-hop influenced soundtrack here.
