There’s good rationale (science!) behind the saying, we’re bananas for bananas. The yellow fruit is chock full of essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, folate, niacin, riboflavin and B6. And their high content of potassium, the mineral electrolyte that keeps your heart beating, puts them in the super fruit category.
They’re also pretty great for your face.
Banana’s heart pumping potassium hydrates dehydrated skin, while B6 helps to protect against free radicals that can cause oxidative stress and premature aging, like wrinkles and crow’s feet. So naturally, both ingredients are especially beneficial for your under-eye skin area. You can peel, mash and rub a little of the fruit on or you can reach for a banana-infused product, like Ole Henriksen’s Banana Bright Eye Crème.
Containing the moisturizing and anti-aging fuelled banana, of course, this lightweight and nutrient packed cream also includes vitamin C to revive and illuminate the eye area. The addition of collagen means the crème will also work its magic to help improve your skin’s elasticity (a.k.a: youthful look). And while it may not smell like the fruit, the product’s pale yellow tint has been specially formulated to brighten and colour correct unwanted under eye circles. Definitely worth going bananas for.
Ole Henriksen’s Banana Bright Eye Crème is $48, available online and at Sephora stores across Canada.
