Fragrance Of The Month: Paco Rabanne 1 Million Royal Parfum Natural Spray

This month? We try out Paco Rabanne 1 Million Royal Parfum Natural Spray

As the saying goes, there’s power in numbers. Especially (and ironically), according to numerology websites, when the said number is the solitary number one. Believed to be a ground breaker, the number one is rumoured to represent leadership, motivation, possibility, confidence, action and, of course, power. Which makes sense when you align it with Paco Rabanne’s 15-year-strong 1 Million name and its line-up of legendary fragrances, including the brand new scent, 1 Million Royal.

Unapologetically bold, woody and spicy, this new incarnation opens with warm, fresh and citrus notes of cardamom, bergamot and tangerine. A botanical blend of lavender, sage and earthy violet leaves soon follow, before being immersed in the dry, spiced heat of benzoin, cedar and patchouli notes. The overall effect is flamboyant and bright, complex and sensual, masculine and unapologetic. After all, it is a Paco Rabanne.

“We wanted to mark the 15th anniversary of 1 Million by creating a modern and stylish 1 Million Royal,” says Quentin Bisch and Christopher Raynaud, the perfumers behind the parfum. “A fragrance born from a quest for absolute quality,” that is powered by the wearers’ inner confidence and unconstrained future.

A quality scent it is, indeed, complete with a flacon fit for royalty. Instantly recognizable as the iconic gold bar of its predecessors, 1 Million Royal’s bottle has been reimagined to include accents of regal red. On the front, the number one is encircled in the ruby shade, while on the back, through the clear glass the red liquid stands out, boldly expressing its presence. All combined, the eau and its packaging are dynamic, majestic, masculine and powerful, just as the number one dictates.

Paco Rabanne 1 Million Royal Parfum Natural Spray, 50 ml for $112, 100 ml for $142, available at Hudson’s Bay, Sephora and Shoppers Drug Mart.
