Meet The 5-Year-Old Boy Who’s Become An Instagram Style Icon

Five-year-old Alonso Mateo is quickly becoming an internet style icon, posting pint-sized selfies of himself wearing tailored, drop-crotch pants, dark aviators and designer jackets on Instagram.

Unlike other child-style icons (think: Hollywood spawn Suri Cruise or the offspring of the Jolie-Pitts, the Beckham kids or Karl Lagerfeld muse Hudson Kroenig), Alonso's parents aren't celebrities. His mother, Luisa Fernanda Espinosa, is a freelance fashion stylist, and his father is the owner and CEO of a private equity firm.

Mateo's road to style stardom began when his mother started posting fashionable snaps of her son to Instagram last year. Now the tot is quickly becoming a social media phenomenon with five different fan accounts dedicated to his stylish Vogue Homme-worthy ensembles, two of which have sprung up in the last month. Do a quick Google search and you will find more than 230,000 photos catalogued of him.

The reason? Mateo's impeccable outfits make him look like a miniature adult. Flip through his self-styled photoshoots and selfies and you will find him striking a confident pose wearing mini threads from Gucci, Dior, Stella McCartney, Little Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and Tom Ford. Of course, as a stylist, Espinosa is able to track down the latest looks for her son. According to a recent interview with The Cut, she snapped up his favourite All Saints boots in multiple sizes before they discontinued their children's line.

However, Ms. Espinosa claims Alonso's styling is his own doing, though she says she will sometimes steer him in the right direction if something he chooses doesn't quite work, or is inappropriate for the weather.

"I love suits, sneakers, and sunglasses," the boy told The Cut. "I like to dress like my dad, because he has cool suits."
