A quick chat with Spanish footballer Sergio Ramos:

Success Beyond The Game: Sergio Ramos

AM: What’s your biggest success in your life?
SR: On my personal life my biggest success has been the bond of my family. On my professional life, with the Spanish selection, I would highlight the World Championship because there is nothing that can give you such excitement. With my team, any title that we have won over the years.

AM: Do you have any other passions in life? Tell us about them.
SR: I like the outdoors because it’s relaxing and I can take a walk. I like animals, my dogs and my horses. They make me feel at peace with the world and they take me away from the routine.

AM: Do you have one piece of advice you would like to share?
SR: To really fight for your dream. The reward will come with sacrifice, effort, illusion and humility. Destiny will always bring something positive.

AM: How do you prepare for big events, like the World Championship in Brazil? And for a big event / moment in your live?
SR: It really does not change that much, maybe mentally because you know is a world championship and has very important repercussions. It is a very short championship and any mistake can leave you out. At a personal level, if you want to be a football player that makes a difference, every season you have to live for football and that involves resting, training, good food and in that sense I don’t change that much. But yes on the mental side for what a world championship means.

AM: Do you remember your first fragrance? What was it? What does it remind you of? Did you buy it yourself?
SR: I like fragrances that are fresh and communicate happiness. I fell more comfortable with that type of fragrance. My first fragrance was a gift from my mother. It smelled clean, clear, spring. I don’t know, but it was a gift from my mother.

AM: Who do you think is going to win the World Cup in 2014?
SR: I hope Spain wins. I think it will be a way of claiming our sport once more to the world. There are teams that are very strong and very good and, when you are the World Champion, everyone gives you the title of favorite and everyone wants to beat Spain. In this case we have to defend the title and let’s hope we can do it in Brazil.

AM: What is your favourite smell? And the one you really don’t like?
SR: Could it be a food smell? I like very much the smell of chicken with sauce. Maybe the smell that really captures my attention is the cleaning smell. When you enter your house and you recognize the fragrance of your home.

AM: How would you describe your personal style?
SR: Just different. I think we should know what to wear at every occasion. But for daily life I like to wear more personal clothes. I think I dress normally but with my personal touch.

AM: As a sports man, you have to live a very healthy lifestyle. What are three things you do to stay healthy?
SR: I like to eat healthy and this is also part of my career. I have been in this habit for so many years that even during special occasions I eat the same. I like to eat healthy – salads, grilled chicken – but I can also eat anything else on other days. On the other hand, what also makes you feel good is resting and training. I think these are the three most important habits: training, resting and healthy eating.

AM: Do you have any specific exercise that you always do no matter where you are?
SR: Yes, push-ups. I don’t really like the gym and I like push-ups because you practically work the whole upper part of the body without doing weights.
