If you’ve happened to watch the news this week, you know that the entire world is eagerly anticipating a tussle between Conor McGregor and Floyd “Money” Mayweather. That battle will likely be a spectacle for the ages, but before it all goes down, let’s take a moment to appreciate one of history’s most important fights. It all took place in San Francisco in the 1960s, and it involved Kung Fu master Wong Jack Man and someone named Bruce Lee – perhaps you’ve heard of him?

Despite dying at the young age of 32, Bruce Lee had already cemented his legacy as a cultural icon. Between winning titles and acting in numerous cult films, the martial artist had made a substantial name for himself with mesmerizing kicks and undeniable charisma. Even to this day, Lee’s influence can be seen in Hollywood blockbusters and in training gyms everywhere.

Back in 1969, the young man even found time to create his now-infamous martial art, Jeet Kune Do, which has become one of the most popular forms of self-defense in the world. With otherworldly skill and a unique flair, the Chinese-American became one of his discipline’s premier figures. In a modern age oversaturated with biopics, it’s safe to say, Bruce Lee’s story is one worth being told.

Thankfully, director George Nolfi is up for this task. The Irish auteur, who has previously brought us Ocean’s Twelve and The Bourne Ultimatum, will now release Birth of the Dragon. In the film, Phillip Ng will play the role of Lee, and will lead us on an epic tale surrounding that fateful fight in 1960’s San Francisco. To get you hyped for the event, you can check out the action-packed trailer below. You can catch Birth of the Dragon in theatres on August 25.
