Bungie Reveals ‘Destiny 2’ With Epic Teaser

Above: 'Destiny 2' will be available this September

First-person shooters have become the summer blockbuster of video games. Titles like Call of Duty and Halo have spurred the genre to become the most copped, and therefore most funded in the entire industry. Sure, there may be the occasional indie developer who releases a forward-thinking game to critical acclaim, but developers like Activision and Ubisoft continue to pile up the resources for churning out cookie-cutter IPs every season. You know what to expect when sitting down with a title like Call of Duty – it can even be somewhat comforting, like a favourite movie. Eventually, it proves to be completely stale for both the hardcore and average gamer. This is why Bungie’s space epic, Destiny, was such a breath of fresh air. The 2014 adventure successfully married the familiarity of an FPS with the expansiveness of role playing and simulation games. While we’ve all had our share enjoying and playing Destiny, fans everywhere have speculated and anticipated the next installment. This week, the sequel was finally revealed with an awesome teaser video.

Unlike the precursor, which was kept relatively secret in the lead up to release, Bungie is giving us some major intel regarding Destiny 2. According to the developer, the upcoming game will feature a devastating alien army led by a brutal new foe. “Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion,” the statement reads. “He has stripped the city’s Guardians of their power, and forced the survivors to flee. You will venture to mysterious, unexplored worlds of our solar system to discover an arsenal of weapons and devastating new combat abilities. To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home.”

You can watch the special cinematic trailer below via YouTube. Expect Destiny 2 in digital stores and on retail shelves later this September. PC gamers will also be able to try out a beta sometime this summer.
