Dutifully Dissecting Dexter: “Monkey In A Box” Review

How Will It End? (My Two Cents)

Saxon is still on the loose, and now he’s shot Debra. Hannah is waiting for Dexter and Harrison at the airport, but Elway is hot on her heels.

Our titular hero is going to have to choose one or the other – his flight to a new life or going after the serial killer who also happened to shoot his sister.

Which will he choose?

My guess is he tries to do both and ends up getting caught red handed. Look – you can’t play up his “human side” and Vogel’s warnings about trying to live in two worlds all season – and have him seemingly “all better” at the end of this episode – without it coming around to bite him in the ass.

That’s how this show works, remember?

Thought he had everything fixed when he killed Trinity – found Rita dead.

So long Travis Marshall… oh look, there’s my sister, the detective, watching me stick a knife in his chest.

Tying up loose ends with LaGuerta… put Deb in an awkward position where she ends up killing her boss and going off the rails.

There haven’t been any happily ever afters for Dexter yet, so why should there be in the finale?

I’m thinking both Hannah and Dexter end up getting caught – Hannah at the airport, Dexter while hunting down Saxon – and rather than go out with a bang, he goes out with a whimper, locked up for aiding and abetting, an ironic twist that our prolific serial killer gets sent to the slammer for trying to help the serial killer he loves.

Tell us what you think is going to happen, and this time next week, we’ll see how we all did.

Until then… it’s been a slice.
