Quick Notes on the Fringe Players
Angel’s “I’m going to bat for you” push for Quinn is already tired, though it did produce Deputy Chief Matthews shooting down Quinn’s candidacy cold because he’s basically a Class A sack of hammers in his eyes. That’s the Quinn we know and love!
The dinner scene with Angel, Quinn, and Jamie was rough. I like that Quinn is being worked back into the main story with Deb (and I expect it to go somewhere), but this was just another scene where Jamie gets to be angry and nothing else. Unfortunately, they’re going to keep dragging this pedestrian “love triangle” bit out for a few more weeks, if not the whole season.
We’re three epsidoes in and I want Hannah McKay to come back already. Even though we haven’t seen her yet, and the only reference to her through three episodes was the flower falling off the plant she gave Dexter in the opening of the season premiere, I want her to reappear, soon.
My Two Cents
This was one of those episodes that every show needs early in the season; a not much happens, but we’re moving forward episode that was similar to last week, while still advancing the main storyline.
There is clearly something more to Dr. Vogel than she’s letting on, and I assume she’s not keeping good elements of her character tucked away. That being said – and I’m willing to be all the way wrong here – I just can’t see her ending up being “The Brain Surgeon.” It’s too on the nose. She’s going to take a dark turn in the future, but I don’t think she’s our main antagonist.
I’m completely loving Debra’s arc this season, and the way Jennifer Carpenter is carrying it from week-to-week. I also like that when she confessed, there was no mention of Dexter’s involvement in the murder, which should be something that comes up in future epsiodes.
And don’t forget, the admittedly “unconventional in her methods” Dr. Vogel is now watching over Debra, and has her written confession. Expect things to get more interesting starting next week.
Until then… it’s been a slice.
