In Your Ears: Summer Music Picks

Above: Some of the summer's best albums

The month of August is, without fail, an amazing time for movie-goers. The same can’t always be said for music buffs. The summer heat tends to bring with it, a dry spell of new tunes. We have already been bombarded by the songs of the summer, which have dominated the radio since the beginning of the season. We understand that it may all start to blend into each other now, which is exactly why we've put this list together. If you’re tired of hearing the same three songs over and over again, then you need to check out these summer albums. With a few from different genres, you’re bound to find something up your alley.

Rap/Hip-Hop

Dreezy – No Hard Feelings

Dreezy sort of appeared out of nowhere this year. This is a trend that we are becoming more and more used to. Unlike most of the auto-tuned, Future-esque rappers controlling the blogosphere right now, Dreezy approaches her craft with an unfiltered, gritty cadence. Her Chicago tenacity is apparent in her scowling delivery. Pair that with melodic cuts that appear ready for the club, and No Hard Feelings makes a damn fine debut.

ScHoolboy Q – Blank Face

For the more traditional hip-hop fan, TDE’s ScHoolboy Q recently put out the excellent, Blank Face. The album will sit well with the backpackers, but has enough bass to please the stingiest of turn up kids. Blank Face, is a hard-hitting piece of music, and yet it’s still a departure from the industry’s obsession with trap bangers. It might not be as equally grabbing as his previous effort, Oxymoron, but it’s most certainly worth a listen.
