Here’s How Much Money Johnny Depp Made For All Five ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Movies

Johnny Depp’s career in Hollywood has spanned over three decades withe the actor skillfully embodying a wide array of characters that have not only earned him critical acclaim but also ensured his place among the highest-grossing actors in the world.

Depp has played so many iconic characters throughout his career, but he’s definitely best known for his role as the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. There have been five movies in the franchise so far and rumours have been swirling that Depp might be on board for a confirmed sixth project.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide and it’s the 15th-highest-grossing movie series of all time. That means it’s a role that Depp has earned huge paydays for… so we’re taking a look at just how much he earned from each of the films.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
(2003) – $10 million

It has been reported that Depp earned $10 million for his work in the first movie from the series. At the time, he likely didn’t have large bonuses written into his contract, but as you’ll see that all changed for the four sequels.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
(2006) – $60 million

It has been reported that Depp earned a base salary of $20 million for the second movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and then earned an additional $40 million in bonuses thanks to the box office success of the movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
(2007) – $50 million

Depp’s salary for the third movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was reportedly $50 million, though it’s unclear how much of that was from base salary and from box office bonuses.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
(2011) – $55 million

It has been reported that Depp made $55 million from On Stranger Tides, the fourth movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Emails that he sent were leaked as part of a 2017 Vanity Fair article and showed that he received a base salary of $35 million for the movie, so he earned $20 million in bonuses.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
(2017) – $90 million

Depp reportedly earned an astonishing $90 million for Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, though it’s unclear how much of that was from base salary and from bonuses.
