Zach Galligan Confirms ‘Gremlins 3’ Is Happening – And It’s Not A Remake

The new Gremlins movie will not be a remake or reboot, at least that’s according to the original film’s star Zach Galligan.

Galligan played Billy Peltzer in the much-loved 1984 classic movie and its so-so 1990 sequel. Both films centered on a seemingly adorable furry creature called Gizmo who produces a brood of evil relatives when he gets wet or is fed after midnight.

Reports of a new Gremlins movie started back in early 2014. Earlier this year it was reported that screenwriter Carl Ellsworth (Red Eye, Disturbia) has been hired to write a third Gremlins film. Both Chris Columbus, who wrote the original 1984 film, and Steven Spielberg, who served as an executive producer, are said to be involved.

During a special Q&A before a screening of Gremlins at London’s Prince Charles Cinema on Wednesday, Galligan gave the audience an update saying that he thinks that the franchise won’t start from scratch.

“It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade,” Galligan said. “So the only thing they will be, and apparently are going to be doing, is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later.”

Continuing, Galligan admitted that he does not know if he will appear in the new movie, but added: “I think there is probably a decent chance since I’m one of the few people left standing from the first movie.”

“Hopefully they won’t use too much CGI, or the CGI will be really good like the Planet Of The Apes movies, and hopefully we’ll have some practical effects too,” Galligan also said of the new movie.
