It may be the May long weekend here in Canada, but nobody is taking a day off in the DC universe. Look, we know comic book movies are a dime a dozen now, and sure we’re all still reeling from an incredibly epic Avengers finale, but it’s never too late to get excited about another property hitting the big screen… especially if it’s a beloved one like this.
According to new reports out of Variety, fans will be seeing a brand new Batman wear the cowl in the very near future. If your memory isn’t too foggy, you’ll recall that the last actor to suit up was Academy Award-winner Ben Affleck, who first played Bruce Wayne three years ago in the critically panned Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Following that rather disappointing turn in multiple DCU flicks, Affleck confirmed earlier this year that he was done as the caped crusader.
This big departure has left a gaping hole in Hollywood until now of course. Variety‘s Justin Kroll says that former Twilight hunk and burgeoning indie darling, Robert Pattinson, is primed for the upcoming solo Batman feature. Kroll says that the deal isn’t quite done as of yet, but Pattinson is at the top of the list and likely to commit before the summer is out.
The forthcoming Batman movie is scheduled to release in June 2021, and will be directed by Planet of the Apes mastermind Matt Reeves. For more on this story, read the full report on Variety here.
